Before I voted tonight, I stood this afternoon at the graveside service of a dear, old family friend. An American flag draped his casket, and as a military honor guard blew Taps, we all stood with our hands over our hearts, united as proud Americans as we said our goodbyes to a man who proudly served his country and defended our rights to freedom and liberty, and our democracy.
A man who would have respected anyone with a difference in opinion to his. Who would not have argued with you about whom your choice of president is, or your position on this proposition or that. He would have acknowledged your opinion, and asked intelligent questions to open discussion about your thoughts, not attack, demean or degrade you.
He will be missed.
